Drifter’s K-9 Castaways

Husky and German Shepherd Rescue

The kindest souls are often the most neglected. Sometimes going days without fresh food or water, struggling in harsh weather, suffering from untreated illnesses, being abused by someone who was supposed to care for them, or thrown away and left feeling unwanted. These dogs are our castaways. Little by little, we will help them find their way to the homes they deserve.

While we are breed-specific to Huskies and German Shepherds, occasionally another breed slips into our lives, and we end up with another precious soul to save. Click here to see who all has found their way to our rescue.

Meet Drifter

Drifter was our first true husky rescue. We drove 13 hours one way to NC to get him. After we saw his story, we knew we had to save him from any more harm that could ever come his way. Drifter got his name from how many places he found himself; he was drifting through life trying to find a home and a family. He was tied to a tree and left suffering. After finally freeing himself, he found his way to a shelter where he was stabbed in the chest and was lucky to survive. He had a stab wound that was 4 inches long and 3 inches deep in his chest; the shelter claimed to have no knowledge of how it happened under their watch. After that, he found his way to a small rescue that cared for him but didn't really have the space or fencing for him to be able to run and play. He spent a lot of time in a small kennel just waiting patiently for someone to give him a better life. We made the drive to get him, and he has since been our gatekeeper. He helps us with our rescues, lets us know who is friendly and who is not. He helps the scared ones out of their shell and becomes a friend to everyone.

The rescue is fairly new at this time, and our castaways are not all ready for their homes just yet. We still have many more to come in the near future. Click below to see who will be available soon and how you can sponsor to help make their adoption happen sooner!
